A few silky tips for distinguishing between real and fake silk
Sep 25, 2024
KXT home factory has compiled some tips to help you distinguish silk from pseudosilk:
1.Burn Test: When burned, real silk produces a smell like burning hair and turns to ash. Synthetic silk melts and smells like plastic.
2.Feel: Real silk has a soft, luxurious feel and a natural sheen. It drapes beautifully and feels cool to the touch. Fake silk may feel slick or plastic-like.
3.Sound: Gently rubbing two pieces of real silk together produces a soft, almost whispering sound. Synthetic fibers tend to be noisier when rubbed.
4.Water Test: Place a drop of water on the fabric. Real silk absorbs moisture quickly and shows a dark spot. Fake silk tends to repel water.
5.Appearance: Examine the fabric closely. Real silk often has irregularities in texture and color due to its natural production process. Fake silk usually has a more uniform appearance.
6.Price and Label: Check the label for content. Real silk will be labeled as "100% silk" or "silk blend." Be wary of prices that seem too good to be true.
7.Weight: Real silk is generally lighter than synthetic fibers of the same thickness. Weigh the fabric in your hand; real silk feels luxurious and light.
